Ex-United star Mikael Silvestre won just about everything when he played at Old Trafford and he believes that his former side must challenge for the title as winning the cup is not enough;  

Mikael Silvestre: “The club have already made some gs so that is another chance for them to move forward and improve the results. The cup is not the club’s main objective, they have got to be challenging for the title like Man City and Arsenal have been doing over the last two seasons. There is still a lot of room for improvement and hopefully they can get some more gs to improve the squad.”

Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui’s move to Old Trafford has just been announced, but Silvestre warns the club about their insistence on buying so many former Ajax players and avoiding a repeat of Antony;

Mikael Silvestre: “They are two good gs, but they have had some that didn’t work out so far, like Antony. Lisandro Martinez on the other side is the one that when he doesn’t play, you feel it.

“I think at this level it’s always trying to avoid a mistake because when you sign a player for five years on a massive contract like Antony had – it will be difficult to recover, so United can’t afford to make too many of those and you want to limit these mistakes.”

Joshua Zirkzee signed from Bologna earlier this summer and Silvestre thinks that the Dutch forward can challenge Hojlund for a starting spot in the side; 

MS: “I’ve known him from his days at Bayern Munich when he came as a teenager, so I followed his footsteps and last year was a big jump for him, in of performance and numbers. He scored a lot of goals and I think he fits what the manager wants for a number nine. Presence, movement, ability to press, a lot of energy, young player, eager to demonstrate and the quality in his finishing, his movement has improved over the years, that comes with experience and I think he will give a good challenge to Hojlund.”
